Introduction

The United States was unjustified in dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because the actions killed 115,000- 194,000 innocent civilians and left the two Japanese cities contaminated with radiation. The United States did not fully understand radiation and the long term effects it carried. The United States should have done more research and understood the intensity of the bombs before they dropped them on Japan and killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. Even the United States did not completely think this bombs were morally right because only six people out of the 600,000 people helping build the bomb actually knew what they were creating and even those who knew what they were creating did not understand the intensity and the long term effects that the bombs would bring. Also once the United States decided to test the bombs, they recorded it on video so that they would see the impact of the bombs, but when they told Japan that they had these bombs they did not send the video over with the message. Therefore Japan did not know the full intensity of the bombs. Once the United States dropped the first bomb on Hiroshima Japan was given three days to decide if they were going to surrender or not. This amount of time was too short to make such a big decision in 1945 because of the restrictions of travel and communication. Finally when the United States went to drop the second bomb on Nagasaki they picked a virgin target so they would understand the full impact of the bomb and this killed all civilians.
